CBDT nudges 12,000 tax professionals to file pending audit reports
The department has sent SMSs and emails in batches to tax professionals who have filed fewer than 50% of the tax audit reports they filed in the previous financial year, officials said. The outreach aims to accelerate compliance ahead of the extended deadline.
"The department has observed that a significant number of tax audit reports for assessment year 2026-27 are yet to be filed, despite the extension of the deadline," an official told ET. The deadline for furnishing tax audit reports has been extended to October 21 from the original September 30.
More than 19.5 lakh tax audit reports have been filed so far for AY26-27, but a significant number remain pending, prompting the department to step up its outreach, officials said. The move expands the SAKSHAM NUDGE initiative, which has so far primarily focused on taxpayers.
The department has now brought tax professionals within its ambit, recognising their role in ensuring accurate reporting and timely compliance.
