Gold rate in India today: MCX gold falls 2.5% in a week - Buy at low price or avoid ahead of Diwali, Dhanteras 2026?

Gold rate in India: Gold prices continued to decline over the week, whereas silver dipped to its all-time low levels in the year. The sharp downfall in gold price came as a sharp rise in crude oil prices complicated the inflation outlook. Meanwhile, Gold Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) Futures, with December expiry saw 2.5% weekly decline.

The recent decline in gold prices came as rising energy prices and persistent inflation concerns reaffirmed the belief that US interest rates will remain elevated for longer. For Indians, the decline in precious metals’ rates has offered an attractive opportunity to invest in gold and silver, especially ahead of Diwali and Dhanteras celebrations.

Gold price in India falls ahead of Dhanteras, Diwali: Time to buy?

Gold prices are likely to remain volatile and the current correction has helped provide some respite to those who were planning to make purchases during the festive season.

However, stronger movement in dollar, rising bond yields and interest rate expectations can restrict the immediate rise in prices, highlighted Siddharth Maurya, Founder & Managing Director, Vibhavangal Anukulakara Pvt. Ltd, adding that increased demand for the festive season and weddings can offer support to domestic gold prices.

“In the long term, the outlook is positive based on the buying activity of central banks and the safety aspect that gold offers. Consumers have the chance to buy gold during Diwali instead of waiting for a big fall in price. Investors should think of staggered buying and not buying at one price level,” explained Maurya.

Gold price sees strong weekly decline

Apart from 2.5% weekly decline, MCX Gold futures saw sharp 7.9% decline in October. MCX gold futures (with December expiry) closed at ₹1,50,390/10 gram on October 1. The bullion saw sharp decline throughout the month and ended 7.9% lower at ₹1,38,419 per 10 gram.

Gold sees worst October since 2008

The international gold prices saw worst October decline since 2008. The sharp sell-off in the bullion came as rising oil prices stoked inflation concerns and a global tech rout spurred investors to sell bullion to cover losses elsewhere.

As per Bloomberg report, bullion fell as much as 3.6% to $3,876.39 an ounce, the lowest since early October 2025. As the possibility of renewed US military action against Iran pushed brent crude to its highest since April, an inflationary pressure has raised expectations of elevated interest rates.

“Higher oil prices are triggering a risk-off environment, which is triggering a Treasury rally. This is reducing liquidity for equities and gold is getting caught up in the momentum,” Bloomberg quoted Bart Melek, global head of commodity strategy at TD Securities.
