Sensex Today | Nifty 50 Live Updates: The Indian stock market extended its ongoing rally this week, with Sensex and Nifty recording up to 0.75% gains even as global markets crashed as the AI frenzy fizzled out following US President Donald Trump’s defeat in the midterm elections.

Indian equity markets traded mixed, with gains in IT, pharma, private banking and healthcare stocks offering some support. However, metal, realty, chemical, oil and gas, FMCG and cement stocks faced notable selling pressure. Broader market performance remained relatively resilient, with select midcap and smallcap segments holding firm, reflecting a divergent trend across sectors.

The Sensex on Thursday posted its biggest single-day gain since April, driven by the strongest buying by overseas investors in Indian equities in more than two years. The outcome of the US midterm elections sent oil prices lower and boosted expectations that Democratic control of Congress would curb policy uncertainty from the White House and temper enthusiasm for artificial intelligence-heavy trades.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has permitted managers of alternative investment funds (AIFs), specialised investment funds and portfolio management services to independently assess and certify investors' accredited status, in a move aimed at simplifying the accreditation process.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Thursday allowed mutual fund schemes to net their fund obligations from outright purchase and sale transactions in the cash market, a move aimed at reducing temporary funding needs and improving settlement efficiency.

Effective April 1, 2027, the new rules will permit funds to settle cash obligations on a net basis at the individual scheme level, while securities will continue to be settled on a gross basis.

For much of the year, technology stocks appeared stuck in a prolonged spell of underperformance. But they are now staging a strong comeback ahead of Diwali, attracting renewed interest from overseas investors.

The third-largest sector by weight in the Nifty, IT stocks lagged the broader market for most of 2026 as foreign portfolio investors chased AI-related opportunities elsewhere in Asia. However, in the second half of October, IT and telecom stocks attracted a disproportionate share of FII buying, even as foreign investors continued to pare exposure to other market segments. FPIs made net purchases of ₹13,112 crore in Indian equities during the second half of October, following outflows of more than ₹47,955 crore in the first half.

The combined market capitalisation of all companies listed on the BSE crossed the ₹500 lakh crore mark for the first time on Thursday, touching around ₹502 lakh crore ($5.31 trillion), supported by a broad-based rally in equities and a steady stream of new listings.

The latest milestone came 622 trading sessions after the total market capitalisation first crossed ₹400 lakh crore on April 8, 2024. The BSE's market capitalisation had first breached ₹100 lakh crore on March 12, 2014, and took 1,494 trading sessions to reach ₹200 lakh crore on February 4, 2021. It crossed the ₹300 lakh crore mark on July 6, 2023, after another 586 sessions, before reaching ₹400 lakh crore in just 181 trading sessions.

New demat account additions climbed to a nine-month high in October, recording their fourth monthly rise in five months after remaining subdued for an extended period between January 2025 and May 2026. The increase was driven by robust IPO activity, which attracted more investors to the stock market.

Gold prices edged higher in early Asian trade on Friday and were on track for a weekly gain as investors awaited the US non-farm payrolls report later in the day for fresh signals on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook.

The dollar was little changed against major currencies on Friday after a sharp selloff in US equities prompted investors to seek safety in haven assets such as the yen and pushed Treasury yields lower ahead of a closely watched US jobs report.

Wall Street's AI-driven rally suffered a major setback on Thursday as concerns over tighter regulation and a slowdown in data centre expansion triggered a broad selloff in technology stocks, wiping out around $3 trillion in S&P 500 market value. The Nasdaq Composite plunged 5.46%, its steepest one-day decline in 19 months, pushing the index into correction territory, Reuters reported.

The Stock Market suffered one of the Worst Days in History based on the results of the Election. Such a sad thing to watch! It took so much work to get us to a level that no one has ever seen before, and then this. Your 401(k)s have, therefore, dropped. Remember, it wasn’t Republicans, it was Dumocrats. Do not fear, however, we will soon, one way or the other, be BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP. Check here

Asian markets opened sharply lower on Friday, extending the global selloff as a rout in chipmakers deepened on Wall Street following the US election, amid growing concerns that Democrats could push for tighter regulations on the artificial intelligence industry.

Several stocks, including Bharti Airtel, LIC, Titan Company, ONGC, Bharti Hexacom, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and Astral, are likely to be in focus on Friday, November 6, as investors react to September-quarter earnings, sales figures, order wins, acquisitions, fundraising plans and other key corporate announcements.

GIFT Nifty futures on the NSE IX were trading 173.5 points, or 0.71%, lower at 24,426, indicating a gap-down opening for Dalal Street on Friday.

Indian stock markets staged a blistering rally on Thursday, with the Sensex and Nifty surging as much as 3%, as Democratic gains in the US midterm elections dealt a setback to President Donald Trump. Easing oil prices and a broader improvement in global sentiment added to the optimism, extending Dalal Street's recovery rally for a second consecutive session.

Indian equity markets rallied sharply, buoyed by the outcome of the US midterm elections. Sentiment strengthened on expectations that a more moderate political environment in Washington could pave the way for de-escalation of the Iran conflict and a softer approach to trade tariffs.
