The Indian Rupee gained on Wednesday. This followed a rally in Asian currencies. Hopes of a deal with Iran lowered oil prices.

Sensex Today | Nifty 50 | Stock Market Live Updates: Indian equities surged at the open on Thursday, with Sensex and Nifty jumping nearly 2% as easing oil prices extended the bullish momentum on Dalal Street.

Asian stocks have advanced on Thursday, tracking gains on Wall Street after a Democratic sweep in the US midterm elections sent oil prices tumbling on expectations that the conflict with Iran may end sooner than anticipated.

Benchmark indexes in Japan and Australia rose, lifting the MSCI Asia Pacific Index by 0.3%. The gains follow a 1.6% surge in the S&P 500, its biggest single-day advance in three months, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.9%.

With its cigarettes business continuing to face pressure, ITC's future growth will hinge on the success of initiatives such as premiumisation, expanding its distribution network, scaling up digital-first brands such as Yoga Bar and Prasuma, reviving its paperboards business, and increasing the contribution of fresh foods and value-added agricultural products.

The company's September-quarter performance underscored the growing role of its non-cigarette businesses in supporting growth, as a steep increase in taxes continued to hurt cigarette volumes and profitability. Strong performance across FMCG, paperboards, agriculture and digital-first brands helped offset the weakness.

  • Asian shares mostly gained on Thursday after U.S. stocks rallied following the midterm election, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumping more than 3% after President Donald Trump’s party lost its sole control of Washington.
  • Selling of shares related to artificial intelligence extended losses. South Korea’s Kospi briefly sank more than 4% on heavy selling of computer chipmakers. By late morning, it was trading 3.5% lower at 5,484.38.
  • Shares in Samsung Electronics sank 5.7%, while memory chipmaker SK Hynix lost 7.4%.
  • In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.5% to 61,914.53. OpenAI investor SoftBank Group shed 5.3%, while computer chipmaking equipment company Tokyo Electron skidded 7.7% and testing equipment maker Advantest tumbled 9.4%.
  • Taiwan's Taiex lost 1.6%. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.9% to 9,003.40.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has constituted a Technical Consultative Committee for Financial Markets to seek inputs from market participants on policy and operational matters.

The committee, chaired by the deputy governor in charge of financial markets regulation, will cover money, government securities and foreign exchange markets, as well as related derivatives and market infrastructure.

Its mandate includes examining market liquidity, resilience, trading systems and emerging risks. The committee will meet at least once every quarter.

Persistent Systems has raised ₹7,600 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) across various maturities, completing the final leg of financing for its acquisition of Germany-based Nagarro SE.

The information technology company raised ₹1,500 crore each through two-year and three-year bonds, and nearly ₹2,000 crore each through four-year and five-year debt issuances. Of the total proceeds, about ₹1,250 crore raised through the four- and five-year bonds was earmarked for general corporate purposes, giving the company flexibility in deploying the funds.

The yield spread between India's 10-year benchmark government bond and the US 10-year Treasury has recently widened to over 240 basis points following the Reserve Bank of India's first rate hike in nearly four years. However, the differential needs to widen to at least 300 basis points to make Indian debt attractive to foreign investors, experts said.

Investor sentiment remained upbeat for the fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, with hopes of easing global trade and geopolitical tensions following the US midterm elections, renewed foreign fund inflows and lower crude oil prices supporting further gains in Indian equities.

The Sensex advanced 383.55 points, or 0.50%, to close at 77,301.40, while the Nifty rose 149.75 points, or 0.63%, to end at 23,960.60.

Gold prices edged higher in early Asian trade on Thursday, extending gains after recording their biggest single-day rise since mid-August in the previous session. A weaker US dollar supported prices, while investors awaited this week's non-farm payrolls report for cues on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook.

The dollar slipped marginally on Thursday after Democrats' decisive victory in the US midterm elections eased a major source of political uncertainty and sparked a rally in global equities.

Wall Street ended sharply higher on Wednesday after Democrats' sweeping midterm election victory eased political uncertainty and lifted investor risk appetite. However, data centre stocks declined amid concerns over tighter regulation of artificial intelligence.

Asian stocks were mixed after Democrats sweep the US midterm elections, sending oil prices tumbling on expectations that the conflict with Iran could end sooner than anticipated.

Several stocks, including BSE, Lenskart, Nykaa, Bharti Airtel, LIC, Aurobindo Pharma and NALCO, are likely to remain in focus on Thursday, November 5, as investors track September-quarter earnings, monthly sales figures, acquisition announcements, fundraising plans, operational updates and other corporate developments.

GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX trades 377 points, or 1.57%, higher at 24,327, signalling a gap-up opening for Dalal Street on Thursday.

The Indian stock market extended its rally for a fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, with the Sensex and Nifty scaling their highest levels in more than two months amid strong buying momentum. Investors are now turning their attention to the outcome of the US midterm elections for further cues.

The Sensex surged around 384 points to cross the 77,300 mark for the first time since late August, settling at 77,301. The Nifty 50 advanced 150 points to close at 23,961, reclaiming the crucial 23,900 level for the first time in nearly two months.

Indian equity benchmarks extended their gains for a fifth straight session on Wednesday, buoyed by easing crude oil prices and optimism over further progress in US-Iran diplomatic negotiations. The improved sentiment triggered broad-based buying across domestic equities.
