Who are the biggest investors backing Anthropic? A look at key stakeholdersETMarkets.com

From Big Tech giants to global investment firms, Anthropic’s backers reflect the scale of capital flowing into the AI boom.

According to Reuters, Anthropic's investor base includes some of the biggest names in technology and finance, with strategic technology partners, venture capital firms, institutional investors and prominent entrepreneurs backing the company through successive funding rounds.

Amazon and Google lead strategic investments

Amazon has invested at least $13 billion in Anthropic and agreed in April to invest up to an additional $20 billion. In return, Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon's cloud services over 10 years.

Alphabet's Google has committed up to $40 billion to Anthropic, including an initial $10 billion investment announced in April. The partnership provides Anthropic with cloud infrastructure and access to Google's AI chips, which are used to train and run its Claude models.

The investments underline the strategic importance of partnerships between AI developers and major cloud computing providers, which supply the computing resources required to develop and operate advanced AI systems.

Venture capital firms back successive funding rounds

Several leading venture capital firms have supported Anthropic across multiple financing rounds as its valuation increased.

Spark Capital led Anthropic's $450 million Series C funding round in May 2023 and secured board representation through general partner Yasmin Razavi.

Menlo Ventures made its first investment in Anthropic in 2023 as part of the Series C round. It subsequently led the Series D financing in 2024, when Anthropic was valued at $18.4 billion, and participated in the $3.5 billion Series E round at a valuation of $61.5 billion.

Lightspeed Venture Partners led the Series E round in March 2025 and later co-led Anthropic's $13 billion Series F financing in September 2025, which valued the company at $183 billion, according to Reuters.

Fidelity Management & Research participated in Series E and co-led the Series F financing. The firm's other investments include data infrastructure company Databricks and cloud computing provider CoreWeave.

Salesforce Ventures, the investment arm of software company Salesforce, participated in both the Series C and Series E rounds. The firm has also invested in AI startup Cohere and cybersecurity company Chainguard.

ICONIQ, GIC and Coatue lead later-stage funding

As Anthropic's valuation surged, global investment firms and institutional investors participated in increasingly large funding rounds.

ICONIQ Capital led the $13 billion Series F financing at a $183 billion valuation and later co-led the $30 billion Series G round. Its other investments include OpenAI and smart-ring maker Oura, Reuters reported.

Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC led the Series G financing, which valued Anthropic at $380 billion. GIC has also invested in AI voice-generation startup ElevenLabs.

Coatue Management led the Series G round and subsequently co-led Anthropic's $65 billion Series H financing. Its other investments include design platform Canva and CoreWeave.

D1 Capital Partners invested across multiple major financing rounds, including Series E, Series F, Series G and Series H. Its portfolio also includes AI startup Cognition and aerospace company SpaceX.

Sequoia Capital was a significant investor in Series G and became one of the lead investors in the $65 billion Series H round, which valued Anthropic at $965 billion.

Altimeter Capital invested in the September 2025 Series F financing and later became a lead investor in the Series H round at the $965 billion valuation.

Individual investors also back Anthropic

Anthropic has attracted prominent individual investors alongside institutional capital.

Jaan Tallinn, the co-founder of Skype, led the company's first institutional financing, a $124 million Series A round in 2021. The angel investor has also backed open-source AI startup Zyphra and AI hardware company Rain AI.

Former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt has personally invested in Anthropic and is among its best-known individual backers. Schmidt has also funded Advanced Machine Intelligence, the AI venture founded by computer scientist Yann LeCun.

IPO to test public-market appetite for AI

Anthropic's expanding investor base reflects the scale of private capital committed to advanced AI development. Its backers include companies providing essential computing infrastructure, venture capital firms that supported its growth from an early stage, and institutional investors participating in increasingly large funding rounds.

Anthropic's prospective IPO offers a closely watched test of whether investors beyond Silicon Valley share the conviction demonstrated by its private backers.

A public listing could provide investors with an opportunity to gain exposure to the AI sector while offering a clearer indication of how public markets value leading AI developers. The company's market reception would also help investors assess the balance between growth prospects, computing costs, competition and the commercial returns expected from generative AI.
